Hillfoot Stockholding is dedicated to finding solutions for the specific requirements of our individual customers and the supply chain in which they operate. A customer in the UK Automotive sector manufactured a safety critical engine component. The material content accounted for 40% of the total cost of manufacture, an untenable figure in this highly competitive market. Hillfoot Stockholding, in conjunction with one of our steelmaking partners, developed a commercial grade steel refined properties that was significantly cheaper than the incumbent re-melted steel grade. This move saved the customer 50% of their raw material costs, thus regaining their competitive position against some aggressive competition. We were also able to hold this dedicated stock in Sheffield, allowing us to offer a KanBan supply regime reducing inventory levels for the customer and providing them with yet more cost savings.

We have many customers in the construction industry, where lead times are short and penalty clauses invoked for the late delivery. We supply tool steel for bespoke projects for the manufacture of roof purlins, cable trunking or window frame section, projects that frequently call for tailor made sections designed by an architect creating a new concept for a client. The range of sizes offered at Hillfoot Washington in all the main tool steel grades covers interim diameters allowing us to offer the customer products close to the required finished machined size, thus reducing machining time and the cost of the raw material in the first place. A dedicated transport arrangement means that these products can be delivered nationwide in time to meet the stringent time lines of this most demanding sector.
