Maxim Integrated Products’ DS1865 is an optical control, calibration and monitor IC for all BPON and GPON triplexer applications. It integrates GPON power-levelling functionality, a laser bias average-power-control (APC) loop, video amplifier control, and SFF-8472 diagnostic and alarm features. It avoids the additional complexity and expense of previous GPON laser-diode drivers by being optimised to work with the MAX3643 burst-mode laser driver for a compact GPON system solution, using low-cost CMOS technology to implement all control, monitoring, and fault management functions. Its optical controller also integrates several analogue functions that make the device's performance the best in its class.
