Compact size means designers can use the MSD542 in the most space-limited situations where they are also easily integrated into customer electronics. Their self-contained nature allows design and implementation time to be minimised since utilising these drives is far simpler than developing a custom drive circuit.

The MSD542 is suitable for driving 2-phase stepper motors from Size 17 to 42 (up to 4.2A). An advanced bipolar constant-current chopping technique, and use of an input voltage up to 50Vdc, mean the MSD542 can produce more speed and power from the same motor compared with more traditional technologies such as L/R drives.

Applications for the MSD542 include X-Y tables, labelling machines, laser cutters, engraving machines and pick-place machines.
